Individual Tutorial III (Nov. ’15)

This study on paper measures 15″ x 23″ and is a composite based in part on two separate photographs. The work investigates how a single memory is often composed of multiple, disparate elements that when combined, serve to trouble and disrupt one’s “true” recollection and create a new memory and new meaning – not unlike how dreams can function. Here I have purposefully reduced the palette and have left whole segments unfinished as I am interested to see how this will influence the viewer’s reading of this piece as the embodiment of memory and its reliability. As with the last work, I have painted the back a solid colour, a soft yellow, with the intention of mounting it slightly off the wall.
