Individual Tutorial II & Group Critique III (Oct. ’15)

With this work I experimented with printing the two collographs repeatedly to suggest both the possibility of multiple iterations in a single recollection as well as to imply the subtle shifts that regularly occur in the details of memory. Additionally, in an effort to prevent the paper from warping, I painted the back. This led me to contemplate the reverse side in a way that I not before. I asked myself, if I am treating a surface otherwise unseen, how can I begin to think about it and engage with it as part of the work? The intention here is to display the work slightly away from the wall and light it from in front so that the red on the backside casts a warm shadow on the wall, contributing to the sensory experience of the viewer.
